(M18) Hex Head Cap Screws, Fully Threaded, Grade C Dimensions reference image

(M18) Hex Head Cap Screws, Fully Threaded, Grade C are manufactured to ISO 4018 with a coarse thread pitch of the standard value. This page lists the controlling dimensions for the (M18) size — head geometry, width across flats, matching spanner size — together with the clearance hole, tapping drill and tightening torque used at assembly.

Spanner & Drive for (M18) Hex Head Cap Screws, Fully Threaded, Grade C

(M18) Hex Head Cap Screws, Fully Threaded, Grade C have a width across flats of 27 mm — fit a 27 mm open-ended spanner or socket. In tight access a 6-point socket on the 27 mm flats gives the most engagement per degree of swing. Where the joint is torqued to a figure, a click wrench is the only way to reproduce it across a batch.

(M18) Hex Head Cap Screws, Fully Threaded, Grade C Weight

A steel (M18) hex head cap screws, fully threaded, grade c at the listed 35,180 mm length weighs approximately 70,332 g each — about 70,332 kg per 1,000 pieces. Stainless A2/A4 weighs roughly the same (density 7.9–8.0 g/cm³).

Actual weight varies slightly with head form, thread and finish; use this figure for freight estimation only.

Installation Tips for (M18) Hex Head Cap Screws, Fully Threaded, Grade C

  • Use a 6-point socket where access allows — 12-point sockets are more prone to rounding the corners on smaller sizes.
  • Serrated flanges need to sit directly on the joint face. A washer between the two removes the bite and leaves an ordinary bolted joint that is believed to be a locking one.
  • At (M18) the stretch in the bolt becomes the controlling factor — for critical joints, use angle-controlled or stretch-controlled tightening instead of pure torque.

Mating Parts for (M18)

For (M18), pair with a (M18) hex nut (ISO 4032 / DIN 934) and, where used, a (M18) flat washer (ISO 7089 / DIN 125A) under the head and under the nut.

Custom manufacturing · Made to drawing

Need hex head cap screws, fully threaded, grade c in a size this table does not list?

This page covers (M18) hex head cap screws, fully threaded, grade c. Lengths and thread lengths outside the standard table are the commonest request, followed by a drive the standard does not offer and a head marked with your own part number. Made by cold heading or hot forging.

Minimum order from 2,000 pieces; samples within 7 days of drawing approval.

Applications & Industries for (M18) Hex Head Cap Screws, Fully Threaded

What Hex Head Cap Screws, Fully Threaded are specified for, industry by industry. Stocked from M5 to M64.

Industries that specify Hex Head Cap Screws, Fully Threaded

  • Agricultural equipment rugged general fixings.
  • Scaffolding and falsework temporary works.
  • Steel construction secondary steelwork and brackets.
  • Timber engineering bolted timber connections.
  • Machine building & OEM The default fastener on production equipment: covers, brackets, motor mounts and sub-assemblies tightened to a specified torque.
  • Automotive & transport Chassis, driveline and body fixings that see vibration and are assembled to a controlled preload.

Typical applications

  • cost-effective large sizes
  • fixing with standard nuts
  • general bolting where precision is not needed
  • using the full thread for variable grip
  • assemblies that are dismantled for service and re-torqued
  • joints where the property class is stated on the drawing

Service conditions to specify against

Marine and coastal
Available in A4 (316) stainless for chloride exposure — coastal structures, pool halls, water treatment and deck hardware, where A2 will eventually pit.
High load
Supplied in ISO 898-1 property classes, so the joint can be designed to a stated proof load and tightened to a calculated torque rather than by feel.
Torque and preload
The joint is designed around bolt tension, so lubrication, coating and the friction coefficient all change the torque figure — state them together.

Where to use something else

  • Do not use grade C screws where fit or close tolerances matter; choose ISO 4017.
  • Do not use a machine thread into unthreaded sheet or timber; use a tapping screw, rivet nut or insert made for that parent material.

Full application guide: where Hex Head Cap Screws, Fully Threaded are used, how to specify them, and the cases they are wrong for

Inside the plant

Manufactured in our own plant

This part is cold-formed, threaded, heat-treated and finished in-house. The stages below are where its class and finish are actually decided.

  1. Wire rod feeding into a cold heading machine
    01

    Cold heading

Wire rod is drawn to size and cold-formed into blanks. Forming rather than cutting keeps the grain flow continuous around the head, which is where a bolt is most likely to fail.

Head dimensions and under-head radius checked at set-up and per shift.

  2. Thread rolling machine producing bolt threads
    02

    Thread rolling

Threads are rolled between hardened dies rather than cut. Rolled threads are stronger in fatigue than cut threads and hold pitch and flank angle far more consistently across a batch.

Go / no-go ring gauges to ISO 965 tolerance class 6g.

  3. Baskets of bolts staged for heat treatment
    03

    Heat treatment

Quench-and-temper brings carbon and alloy steel to the property class ordered — 8.8, 10.9 or 12.9 — with the furnace charge tracked so a finished lot can be traced back to it.

Core hardness and tensile tested per lot to ISO 898-1.

  4. Zinc plated bolts in a treatment basket
    04

    Surface treatment

Zinc, zinc-nickel, hot-dip galvanizing, black oxide, phosphate and Dacromet, selected against the service environment rather than against the price list.

Coating thickness and neutral salt spray hours to ISO 9227.

Frequently Asked Questions

What spanner size fits (M18) Hex Head Cap Screws, Fully Threaded, Grade C?

The width across flats for (M18) Hex Head Cap Screws, Fully Threaded, Grade C is 27 mm, so a 27 mm spanner or 6-point socket fits.

Should (M18) Hex Head Cap Screws, Fully Threaded, Grade C be tightened by torque or by angle?

For critical structural joints at (M18), angle-controlled or stretch-controlled tightening is more repeatable than pure torque — the friction scatter at large diameters can dominate the torque signal.

What grip range is typical for (M18) structural bolts?

Grip ranges are highly application-dependent at (M18). As a guide, choose a length that gives at least 1× the thread diameter engagement in the nut plus 2–3 thread pitches projecting.
