ISO 13918 is the governing dimensional standard for weld studs (cd and drawn-arc). This page sets out the scope of the standard, reproduces the full size table it specifies, and lists the DIN/ISO/ASME cross-references commonly cited in datasheets and drawings.
ISO 13918 — Scope
ISO 13918 specifies the dimensions and tolerances of weld studs (cd and drawn-arc). Material, property class, surface finish and packaging are governed by separate documents in the same standards family (for example ISO 898-1 for the mechanical property classes of bolts and screws).
Tolerance & Product Grades
ISO 13918, alongside the related ISO 13918 entries on this site, specifies product grades (typically A or B for fine work and C for general engineering) and tolerance classes for the controlling dimensions. Choose the grade against the precision your application requires.
Dimensions Specified by ISO 13918
| Thread size | Length L before weld (mm) | Weld process | Burn-off (mm) | Minimum sheet thickness (mm) | Flange diameter (mm) | Material | Reference standard |

| M3 | 8 | CD (type PT) | 0.5 | 0.6 | u2014 | Mild steel / A2 | ISO 13918 |
| M4 | 10 | CD (type PT) | 0.5 | 0.7 | u2014 | Mild steel / A2 | ISO 13918 |
| M5 | 16 | CD (type PT) | 0.5 | 0.8 | u2014 | Mild steel / A2 | ISO 13918 |
| M6 | 20 | CD (type PT) | 0.5 | 1.0 | u2014 | Mild steel / A2 | ISO 13918 |
| M8 | 25 | Drawn-arc (type PD) | 4.0 | 2.0 | 13.0 | Mild steel | ISO 13918 |
| M10 | 30 | Drawn-arc (type PD) | 4.0 | 2.5 | 16.0 | Mild steel | ISO 13918 |
| M12 | 40 | Drawn-arc (type PD) | 5.0 | 3.0 | 19.0 | Mild steel | ISO 13918 |
Equivalent Standards
Where direct equivalents exist (ISO ↔ DIN, ISO ↔ ASME), they are listed on the parent Weld Studs (CD and Drawn-Arc) page.
Always confirm against the dimensions on this page, since some "equivalent" standards differ in tolerances and head geometry.
When to Specify ISO 13918
Choose ISO 13918 for international engineering work and OEM supply where ISO standards are the contractual reference. It is the default modern specification for weld studs (cd and drawn-arc).
