ISO 15977 Blind Pop Rivet Specification

Dimensional table, tolerance classes and the DIN / ISO / ASME parts that supersede or match this standard.

ISO 15977 specifies the dimensions and tolerances for blind pop rivet. The full dimensional table is reproduced below, followed by the DIN, ISO and ASME parts that match or supersede it.

Equivalence between national standards is dimensional, not always metallurgical. Check the property class separately when substituting.

ISO 15977 Blind Pop Rivet Specification reference image

For blind pop rivet, ISO 15977 is the governing document for the dimensions listed below. Mechanical and performance requirements for this part family are set by its own standards, not by the bolt and screw property-class documents.

ISO 15977 — Scope

ISO 15977 is "Open end blind rivets with break pull mandrel and protruding head — AlA/St".

Material, property class, surface finish and packaging are governed by separate documents — ISO 898-1 and ISO 898-2 for mechanical property classes, ISO 4042 for electroplated finishes.

Tolerance & Product Grades

ISO 15977 does not divide blind pop rivet — gb/t 12618 / iso 15977 (series 098) into product grades. Tolerances are given as limits on the individual dimensions in the table.

Where a general-tolerance class is cited on the drawing instead, it applies to the dimensions not otherwise toleranced.

Equivalent Standards

Where direct equivalents exist (ISO ↔ DIN, ISO ↔ ASME), they are listed on the parent Blind Pop Rivet — GB/T 12618 / ISO 15977 (Series 098) page.

Always confirm against the dimensions on this page, since some "equivalent" standards differ in tolerances and head geometry.

When to Specify ISO 15977

Choose ISO 15977 for international engineering work and OEM supply where ISO standards are the contractual reference. It is the default modern specification for blind pop rivet — gb/t 12618 / iso 15977 (series 098).

Custom manufacturing · Made to drawing

Need a rivet to this standard in a non-standard size?

Parts built to ISO 15977 are already in the catalog, so a special is usually a variation on existing tooling rather than a new design — which is what keeps the cost down. Made by cold heading or drawing.

Minimum order from 2,000 pieces; samples within 7 days of drawing approval.

Customize the parameters below — every spec field is editable, and the drawing redraws to match the values you choose. Changing the size will snap the other fields to that size's standard values; you can then override any individual value.

Applications & Industries

Where Blind Pop Rivet are used, and what decides the specification in each case. Stocked from 2.4 to 6.0 (nominal diameter).

Industries that specify Blind Pop Rivet

  • Sheet-metal fabrication Permanent joints in enclosures, ducting and panels.
  • Transport & bodywork Trailer, bus and van panels joined blind from one side.
  • Signage & cladding Fast, vibration-resistant fixing of thin material.
  • Consumer goods & toys Riveted pivots and permanent light assemblies.

Typical applications

  • riveted pivots that must stay tight but still turn
  • permanent joints in thin sheet where a threaded fastener would loosen
  • blind fixing where only one side can be reached

Service conditions to specify against

Marine and coastal
Available in A4 (316) stainless for chloride exposure — coastal structures, pool halls, water treatment and deck hardware, where A2 will eventually pit.

Where to use something else

  • Not for a joint that has to come apart in service — removal means drilling the rivet out.

Inside the plant

Manufactured in our own plant

This part is cold-formed, threaded, heat-treated and finished in-house. The stages below are where its class and finish are actually decided.

  1. Wire rod feeding into a cold heading machine
    01

    Cold heading

Wire rod is drawn to size and cold-formed into blanks. Forming rather than cutting keeps the grain flow continuous around the head, which is where a bolt is most likely to fail.

Head dimensions and under-head radius checked at set-up and per shift.

  2. Thread rolling machine producing bolt threads
    02

    Thread rolling

Threads are rolled between hardened dies rather than cut. Rolled threads are stronger in fatigue than cut threads and hold pitch and flank angle far more consistently across a batch.

Go / no-go ring gauges to ISO 965 tolerance class 6g.

  3. Baskets of bolts staged for heat treatment
    03

    Heat treatment

Quench-and-temper brings carbon and alloy steel to the property class ordered — 8.8, 10.9 or 12.9 — with the furnace charge tracked so a finished lot can be traced back to it.

Core hardness and tensile tested per lot to ISO 898-1.

  4. Zinc plated bolts in a treatment basket
    04

    Surface treatment

Zinc, zinc-nickel, hot-dip galvanizing, black oxide, phosphate and Dacromet, selected against the service environment rather than against the price list.

Coating thickness and neutral salt spray hours to ISO 9227.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which edition of ISO 15977 does this table follow?

The table reproduces the dimensions we supply blind pop rivet — gb/t 12618 / iso 15977 (series 098) to. We do not publish an edition year against it, so where the edition is contractually significant, cite the edition you require on the enquiry and we will confirm it against the table before quoting.

What is ISO 15977?

ISO 15977 is "Open end blind rivets with break pull mandrel and protruding head — AlA/St".

What does ISO 15977 specify for Blind Pop Rivet — GB/T 12618 / ISO 15977 (Series 098)?

ISO 15977 specifies the dimensions and tolerances of blind pop rivet — gb/t 12618 / iso 15977 (series 098). Material and property class are governed by separate documents.

Does ISO 15977 specify the mechanical strength?

No. ISO 15977 controls only the geometry of blind pop rivet — gb/t 12618 / iso 15977 (series 098). The mechanical strength is set by ISO 898-1 (bolts, screws and studs) or ISO 898-2 (nuts), and the finish by separate documents.

How do I request a quotation?
