ISO 2341 Clevis Pins with Head (No Cotter Pin Hole) Specification

Dimensional table, tolerance classes and the DIN / ISO / ASME parts that supersede or match this standard.

Specification summary of ISO 2341 as applied to clevis pins with head (no cotter pin hole): the dimensions the standard fixes, the full size range supplied, and the related designations commonly cross-referenced.

ISO 2341 — Scope

ISO 2341 is "Clevis pins with head".

Tolerance & Product Grades

ISO 2341 does not divide clevis pins with head (no cotter pin hole) into product grades. Tolerances are given as limits on the individual dimensions in the table.

Where a general-tolerance class is cited on the drawing instead, it applies to the dimensions not otherwise toleranced.

Equivalent Standards

Where direct equivalents exist (ISO ↔ DIN, ISO ↔ ASME), they are listed on the parent Clevis Pins with Head (No Cotter Pin Hole) page.

Always confirm against the dimensions on this page, since some "equivalent" standards differ in tolerances and head geometry.

Companion Standards

ISO 2341 controls the geometry of clevis pins with head (no cotter pin hole). Surface finish is governed by separate finish standards such as ISO 4042 for electroplating, and corrosion testing by ISO 9227 (neutral salt spray). Mechanical performance is set by the documents specific to this part family — ISO 898-1 and ISO 898-2 apply to bolts, screws, studs and nuts, and not here.

Custom manufacturing · Made to drawing

Need a pin to this standard in a non-standard size?

Parts built to ISO 2341 are already in the catalog, so a special is usually a variation on existing tooling rather than a new design — which is what keeps the cost down. Made by cold heading or turning.

Minimum order from 2,000 pieces; samples within 7 days of drawing approval.

Applications & Industries

Where Clevis Pins with Head are used, and what decides the specification in each case. Stocked from 3 mm to 100 mm (nominal diameter).

Industries that specify Clevis Pins with Head

  • Linkages pivots with ring retainers.
  • Hydraulic equipment cylinder mounts.
  • Agricultural machinery linkage pins.
  • Lifting pivot pins.
  • Jigs, tooling & fixtures Locating plates and tooling so they reassemble in the same position.
  • Machine building Hinges, pivots and linkages carrying light to moderate shear.

Typical applications

  • retaining with a retaining ring or clip
  • pivoting in linkages
  • fitting where a cotter hole is not wanted
  • simple assembly
  • pivot and hinge joints loaded in shear
  • quick connections made and broken by hand

Service conditions to specify against

Marine and coastal
Available in A4 (316) stainless for chloride exposure — coastal structures, pool halls, water treatment and deck hardware, where A2 will eventually pit.
Hole preparation
The hole is half the specification: a ground dowel needs a reamed H7 hole, a grooved or spring pin will hold in a drilled one.

Where to use something else

  • Do not use without a retainer on the headless end; the pin will migrate.

Inside the plant

Manufactured in our own plant

This part is cold-formed, threaded, heat-treated and finished in-house. The stages below are where its class and finish are actually decided.

  1. Wire rod feeding into a cold heading machine
    01

    Cold heading

Wire rod is drawn to size and cold-formed into blanks. Forming rather than cutting keeps the grain flow continuous around the head, which is where a bolt is most likely to fail.

Head dimensions and under-head radius checked at set-up and per shift.

  2. Thread rolling machine producing bolt threads
    02

    Thread rolling

Threads are rolled between hardened dies rather than cut. Rolled threads are stronger in fatigue than cut threads and hold pitch and flank angle far more consistently across a batch.

Go / no-go ring gauges to ISO 965 tolerance class 6g.

  3. Baskets of bolts staged for heat treatment
    03

    Heat treatment

Quench-and-temper brings carbon and alloy steel to the property class ordered — 8.8, 10.9 or 12.9 — with the furnace charge tracked so a finished lot can be traced back to it.

Core hardness and tensile tested per lot to ISO 898-1.

  4. Zinc plated bolts in a treatment basket
    04

    Surface treatment

Zinc, zinc-nickel, hot-dip galvanizing, black oxide, phosphate and Dacromet, selected against the service environment rather than against the price list.

Coating thickness and neutral salt spray hours to ISO 9227.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I substitute ISO 2341 for the corresponding DIN standard on a drawing?

On modern drawings the ISO standard is the master reference; the older DIN equivalent is a cross-reference. For most dimensional purposes the parts are interchangeable, but check tolerance grades and the head height — these are the most common points of divergence.

Which edition of ISO 2341 does this table follow?

The table reproduces the dimensions we supply clevis pins with head (no cotter pin hole) to. We do not publish an edition year against it, so where the edition is contractually significant, cite the edition you require on the enquiry and we will confirm it against the table before quoting.

What is ISO 2341?

ISO 2341 is "Clevis pins with head".

What does ISO 2341 specify for Clevis Pins with Head (No Cotter Pin Hole)?

ISO 2341 specifies the dimensions and tolerances of clevis pins with head (no cotter pin hole). Material and property class are governed by separate documents.

How do I request a quotation?
